Resumo

The relations between the two neighboring countries, the Republic of Türkiye and the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI), are characterized by a unique pattern of cooperation and rivalry. To the fullest extent, this character has also manifested itself in Latin America in recent years. The use of religious organizations and denominations as a foreign policy tool, the use of soft power, and the establishment of economic ties define the basic nature of Turkish and Iranian foreign policy in the region. At the same time, the specific foreign policy methods used by the two countries are often different. This article analyzes the foreign policy arguments used by Ankara and Tehran in Latin America and reveals the extent of their competition on the continent.
